Big Stax 300 (Day 1C): Last Break Coming

Level 14 - Blinds 1,500/3,000/400

Level 14 is half way done, and when it finishes players will be on their last (15) minute break of the night.  Two more levels will be played, and we will bag the chips, and have our final Day 2 field.

Big Stax 300 (Day 1C): Ladies Night

Level 13 - 1,200/2,400/300

Here is a list of ladies still alive in the field:

Amber Merefield - 240,000

Aileen Freifeld - 90,000

Patricia Barsanti-Chou - 78,000

Sandy Seligman - 70,000

Nancy Martin - 65,000

Rong Sun - 35,000

Cathy Dever - 28,000

Mita Urena - 12,000

Big Stax 300 (Day 1C): Donk Hand

Level 13 - Blinds 1,200/2,400/300

Passing Table 72, Chris VanDeursen called over and said we had to get his "donk hand" on the blog.  Pat Lavecchia had flopped a straight, and called Chris's all-in on the turn.  VanDeursen show a pair and a flush draw, and spiked the diamond flush on the river.  Lavecchia had him covered, but is crippled with a stack below starting:

Chris VanDeursen - 170,000

Pat Lavecchia - 19,000

Big Stax 300 (Day 1C): Break Time

Players will finish the last (10) minutes of this level, and then go on a (15) minute break.  When they return to Level 13, the blinds will be 1,200/2,400/300.

Big Stax 300 (Day 1C): Ambassador Update

Level 12 - Blinds 1,000/2,000/300

Big Stax 300 (Day 1C): New Friends

Level 11- Blinds 800/1,600/200

As tables break, people re-enter, and others are pulled from tables, we find ourselves with some interesting pairings in the field:

Table 63: Matt Glantz, Din Ling

Table: 65: Silvio Mantuano, Joe Reddick, Cathy Dever, Mike Dentale

Table 66: Gordon Eng, Kevin Tran

Table 72: Pat Lavecchia, Kori Hunter

Table 74: Leonardo Palermo, Manh Nguyen, Frank Dire

Table 78: Jason Rivkin, Chris VanDeursen

Big Stax 300 (Day 1C): Level Up

Tournament staff has announced the beginning of Level 12, with blinds going up to 1,000/2,000/300.

Big Stax 300 (Day 1C): Big Stacks

Level 11 - Blinds 800/1,600/200

After a lap around the clubhouse, here are some of the largest stacks in the field:

Salvio Mantuano - 295,000

Ben Scholl - 240,000

Ryan Feldman - 220,000

Chad Himmelspach - 198,000

Antonio Walker - 170,000

Big Stax 300: Level Up

The level has gone up, with the blinds increasing to 800/1,600/200. The total number of entries has eclipsed the 900 player mark (912). The only question whether we will reach 1,000?

Big Stax 300 (Day 1C): Waiting Patiently

Level 10 - Blinds 600/1,200/200

Since doubling up through Mike Dentale earlier in the tournament, Antonio Walker (Willingboro, NJ) had been bleeding chips.  He went levels and levels not getting hands, and blinding himself down to about 55,000.  Walker four-bet all-in as we walked by his table, and was in good shape with AA vs. QQ.  The board ran out clean and he would get a full double, and tablemate Matthew Burnitz even said to him after winning the hand, "You've been super patient...good hand."

Big Stax 300 (Day 1C): Coming Back From Dinner

Players are taking their seats after dinner, coming back to Level 10 with blinds of 600/1,200/200.  There are currently 889 entries into the event, and registration will close at the completion of play tonight.

Big Stax 300 (Day 1C): Almost Break...Dinner Time

Players will finish off the remaining (18) minutes of this level, and will use the next (75) minutes to go on dinner break.  We will bring you updated counts during dinner, and resume our coverage around 7:40pm.

Big Stax 300 (Day 1C): Parting Words

Level 9 - Blinds 500/1,000/100

We've seen a ton of people bust and go back to the cage, with that "no quit" mentality, but some decide to call it a day (as we see on Twitter):

Big Stax 300 (Day 1C): Back Where It All Begins

Level 9 - Blinds 500/1,000/100

It's always nice to find players who most of the field would know...not because of career earnings or bracelets, but because they were in the box here at some point.  Both Jose Gallegos (Bensalem, PA) and Justin Davis (Pennsauken, PA) are former dealers here at Parx (poker room), and playing in this event.  This is the first we saw Justin, but Jose's second chance at bagging chips in this event.

 Jose Gallegos
Justin Davis

Big Stax 300: Level Up

Level has gone up, with the blinds increasing to 400/800/100.

Big Stax 300 (Day 1C): Cracking Aces...Nothing New

Level 7 - Blinds 300/600/100

We walked over to table 65 just as Silvio Mantuan had called the open shove of his opponent (22,000) on the flop of A 7 8♠.  When the cards were tabled is was the AA of his opponent against Silvio's J 10.  The turn brought one of Mantuan's outs (9♠), and when the board didn't pair on the river he'd win the pot, knocking the player out and chipping up to 140,000.

Big Stax 300 (Day 1C): Numbers Update

Level 7 - Blinds 300/600/100

There have been a total of 304 entries so far today, bring the cumulative total to 847.

Big Stax 300 (Day 1C): Big Game Hunting

Level 7 - Blinds 300/600/100

Taking a lap during the break, we were able to find some of the bigger stacks in the field:

Kevin Mullens - 130,000

Vadim Faynleb - 108,000

Mike Dentale - 100,000

Paul Tarulli - 100,000

Big Stax 300 (Day 1C): Break Time Tweets

Some chip counts via Twitter:

Big Stax 300 (Day 1C): When You're Not Playing?

What do players do once they've bagged chips in an event like this.  Those who don't live in the area usually will stay close and maybe play cash in the down time.  Alex Rocha (S. Seatauket, NY) bagged 190,000 on Day 1A, and is using his time to rest up, and keep his Twitter followers entertained:

Big Stax 300 (Day 1C): Color Up Break

After the next handful of minutes tick off the clock, players will be going on their second (15) minute break of the day.  While on break the tournament floor will color off the green (25) chips.  Some players beginning to gain some traction in the field include Matthew Burnitz and Mike Dentale (both on second bullets).

Big Stax 300 (Day 1C): Always Welcome

Level 6 - Blinds 250/500/50

Pierre Deissler (Mount Laurel, NJ) took a shot somewhere else (who knows why?), but is in transit hoping to make his second cash in the Big Stax 300.  Pierre min cashed in the event for $990 last time around, but will surely look to improve on that:

Big Stax 300 (Day 1C): Late(r) Entries

Level 5 - Blinds 200/400/50

Players are steadily coming in and out of the clubhouse room, with a few notables that we caught recently:

Matt Glantz
Chris VanDuersen (5th Place in the WPT Parx Open Poker Classic Main Event)

Big Stax 300 (Day 1C): Second Time A Charm?

Level 5 - Blinds 200/400/50

Mike Dentale had no luck with the first bullet, as posted on Twitter, as Antonio Walker send Mike back to the cage, but since he has been back, he's built up a stack just under 100,000.

Big Stax 300 (Day 1C): Level Up

Level 5 is about to begin, with the blinds increasing to 200/400/50.

Big Stax 300 (Day 1C): Tournament Gallery (Part 1)

Level 4 - Blinds 150/300/50

Matthew Burnitz  ($590,000 career earnings, runner-up WPT Borgata Fall Open 2012)

Gordon Eng ($880,000 career earnings, over 80 recorded major tournament cashes)

Clubhouse Room Fills Up

Big Stax 300 (Day 1C): Growing Field

Level 4 - Blinds 150/300/50

The field begins to grow as there are now 760 entries, which brings our prize pool north of $215,000.  The trend that we are seeing today is re-entries, and lots of them.  With today being the last chance to enter, players are taking as many shots as needed to put themselves in position to grab a share of the prize.

Big Stax 300 (Day 1C): First Break Of Day

Players are taking their first (15) minute break of the day, and when they return to Level 4, the blinds will be increasing to 150/300/50.

Big Stax 300 (Day 1C): Tough Table Draws

Level 3 - Blinds 100/200/25

Here are some of the tougher table draws in the field so far (and notables missed):

Table 80: Leonardo Palermo, Peter Ippolito, Thomas Carney

Table 84: Brian Cambell, Aaron Frese, Alex Torres

Table 87: Mahn Nguyen, Brian Lemke

Christopher Bourassa
Frank Dire
Joe Spillane
Michael Gonzalez
Gordon Eng

Big Stax 300 (Day 1C): Level Up...Defending Champ Follows Suit

Level 3 has just started, and the blinds will be increasing to 100/200/25.  It hasn't taken long for defending PBS 300 champ Jason Rivkin (Eatontown, NJ) to gain some early traction:

Big Stax 300 (Day 1C): North Of The Border And Back

Level 2 - 75/150

Mike Dentale (Brooklyn, NY) heads into the clubhouse room for the first time this series, and first time since finishing 4th in the Big Stax 1,500 in February.  Dentale cashed for just under $55,000, and has since concentrated on the bigger buy-in events on the circuit.  From the WPT Seminole Hard Rock to WPT Montreal, he's had no shortage of frequent flyer miles.

Dentale is no stranger to cashes or deep runs, and hope to better his final table performance from months ago.

Big Stax 300 (Day 1C): Level 2 Winding Down...Familiar Faces

Level 2 - Blinds 75/150

There are tons of familiar faces in this crowd, some we haven't seen yet, and some that are returning for second (and third) chances to bag chips:

Matthew Burnitz
Kim Edmonds
Amanda Musumeci
Ross Gottleib
Eileen Kustafik
Paul Spitzberg
Brian Lemke
Nancy Martin
Jason Rivkin
Robert Lynch

Big Stax 300 (Day 1C): Cards In The Air

The cards are in the air and the action has started, with the blinds beginning at 50/100.

Big Stax 300: Day 1C About To Begin

The final starting day of the Parx Big Stax 300 will have the cards in the air shortly.  A larger than normal field is expected for today, and the re-entries will sure to be happening up to the final minutes of Level 16.  We will bring you the notables in the field, as well as kick off our live coverage shortly.  Until then, Matt Glnatz poses a question on Twitter to win some free Parx swag:
