Big Stax 300: Stormin' Norman

While players were on break, a crowd began to gather around Table 66.  We walked over to the table to see the board:

A 5♠ 6 J♠ 5♠

The pot was about 100,000, and Norman Rogers was facing a 76,000 bet on the river from his opponent.  Rogers was sitting on about 230,000 to start the hand, and would be taking a huge hit if he called an lost.  Norman tanked for about 7-8 minutes and finally decided to make the call.  His opponent muttered, "Queen high."  Rogers flipped over 10 6♠, making a huge call and taking down a very sizable pot.

The players who stayed to watch the hang were shocked by the outcome, and continued to discuss the hand as they went on a shorter break than anticipated.

Players are now back from break, and ready to play out the night.

Big Stax 300: Final Break Of The Day

Players will be going on their final (15) break of the day at the conclusion of this level (2 minutes).  When they return to Level 15 the blinds will be 2,000/4,000/500, and the day will end after two more levels.

Big Stax 300: M-Asher

Level 14 - 1,500/3,000/400

We walked up to Table 67 as Asher Conniff three-bet an opening raise to 18,300.  When it was Matt Macaroni's action, he four-bet to 42,000.  The action folded back around to Conniff, and he five-bet all-in, covering Matt's 120,000 stack.  Asher held AA and would be up against the 10 10 of Macaroni.  The board would run out clean for Conniff, and he propels himself to top five in the room with 390,000.

Big Stax 300: Updated Chip Counts

Level 14 - Blinds 1,500/3,000/400

Updated chip counts from the field:

Ross Gottleib - 425,000
Mike Garaufis - 397,000
Marvin Siegal - 380,000
Wooyang Lin - 370,000
Jonas Wexler - 350,000

Big Stax 300: Entering The Ring

Level 14 - 1,500/3,000/400

Wooyang Lin (Morristown, NJ)

Wooyang Lin (Morristown, NJ) uses a miniature boxing glove as his card protector, possibly to knock opponents out (I know....terrible).  He's in the back corner of the room, and has been overlooked when mentioning the chip leaders.  Lin is one of a handful of players over the 300,000 mark (360,000), and hopes to bag a solid number going into Day 2.  Lin has over $360,000 in career earnings, but is looking for his third recorded win (Lin's last win coming in 2005).

Big Stax 300: Entries Rise, Field Shrinks

Level 13 - Blinds 1,200/2,400/300

The total number of entries has eclipsed 300 in the clubhouse room, while 63 players still remain.  Play will continue until the end of Level 16, and players will then bag their chips for  Day 2 on Saturday.  Players have the option to play in both Day 1B and 1C to try to better the number they bag, but many will forego that option.

Big Stax 300: Back From Break

Level 13 - Blinds 1,200/2,400/300

The remaining 66 players are back from break, and three of the larger stacks in the room are now all at the same table:

Table 62:

Marvin Siegal - 400,000
Jonas Wexler - 380,000
Kyle Bowker - 370,000

Big Stax 300: Break Time

Level 12 - Blinds 1,000/2,000/300

Players will be going on a (15) minute break at the end of this level, and will return to Level 13 and blinds of 1,200/2,400/300.

Big Stax 300: Tough Tables

Level 12 - Blinds 1,000/2,000/300

As the field shrinks and tables are broken, we end up with some tough table pairings:

Table 62 - Brandon Guss, Marvin Siegal, Kyle Bowker
Table 63 - DeeAngelo Seng, Ilya Dyment
Table 64 - Leonardo Palma, Jin Li
Table 66 - Pat Lavecchia, Jack Duong, Norman Rogers, Ross Gottleib
Table 68 - Asher Conniff, Stephanie Hubbard
Table 69 - Jeffrey Wicker, Pofuk Ying
Table 70 - Jonas Wexler, "Miami" John Cernuto

Big Stax 300: Fly Like A Siegal

Level 12 - Blinds 1,000/2,000/300

Marvin Siegal (Monroe Township, NJ)

Marvin Siegal (Monroe Township, NJ) has just assumed the chip lead, after his KK held up against his opponents QQ for a 240,000 pot.  Marvin was on the button, and three bet the hi-jack's opening raise to 12,000.  Siegal would posture just for a moment after he was four-bet to 29,000, and then declare himself all-in (Siegal had his opponent covered).  After the call was made and the cards were tabled, the board ran clean for the kings, and Marvin would be stacking up to 380,000 (190 big blinds).

Big Stax 300: Moving On Up

Blinds are about to increase again as Level 12 begins after this hand.  The blinds will be going up to 1,000/2,000/300.  90 players currently remain playing in the clubhouse room, from the 296 entries that have totaled on this Day 1A.

Big Stax 300: Wexler Piling It On

Level 11 - 800/1,600/200

Jonas Wexler is continuing a solid upward trend, as he send home a second player in as many hands.  Wexler had put in a bet large enough to cover his opponent on the river, looking at a board of 4 J A 3 6♣.  His opponent tanked for a short moment, but had pretty much committed herself after calling the turn.  She put her last chips in and Wexler tabled J J (set of Jacks), and climbs to 310,000 after scooping that pot.

Big Stax 300: Level Going Up

Level 11 has been announced by the tournament staff, and the blinds are increasing to 800/1,600/200.  The total amount of entries is right under 300, bringing the prize pool close to the $90,000 mark.  The $150,000 guarantee seems to be just a formality, as we are already more than half way to the mark (only 9 hours in).

Big Stax 300: Hitting "Jin"

Level 10 - 600/1,200/200

A player in the field who can no longer go under the radar is Jin Li (Furlong, PA).  Jin is a Parx tournament regular, who cashed in two of the three Big Stax I events ( PBS 300 and PBS 500) last time around.  She is putting herself in great position now, sitting with over 200,000.  Li has six major tournament cashes on record, five of which came in this poker room.

Big Stax 300: Updated Chip Counts

Level 10 - 600/1,200/200

Updated chip counts after dinner:

Jonas Wexler - 260,000
Ross Gottleib - 255,000
Norman Rogers - 210,000
Asher Conniff - 190,000
Jeff Wicker - 170,000
Ilya Dyment - 170,000
Marvin Siegal - 150,000
Kyle Bowker - 120,000

Big Stax 300: Back From Dinner

Level 10 - 600/1,200/200

Players are back from their dinner break, and they return to blinds of 600/1,200/200.

Big Stax 300: Time For Nourishment

Level 9 - 500/1,000/100

Level 9 has (9) minutes remaining, and players will then be going on a (75) minute dinner break.  Our live coverage of the event with resume at approximately 7:45 pm.

Big Stax 300: Heaps

Level 9 - Blinds 500/1,000/100

Tim Dalessandro (West Chester, PA)

Asher Conniff insisted that a player at his table gets on the blog, possibly because of straight chip envy. Conniff is in a good spot sitting with 160,000, but Tim Dalessandro (West Chester, PA) currently leads the field with 265,000.  We weren't witness to the upward trend that Tim went on, but his table can confirm his super run good.

Big Stax 300: One More Level And Then Dinner

Level 8 - 400/800/100

Players will be playing Level 9, with blinds of 500/1,000/100, and then going on dinner break at the conclusion of that level.  The total number of entries is up to 275, and with 140 players remaining, the chip average sits at 59,000 (59 big blinds).

Big Stax 300: "Miami" Livin'

Level 8 - Blinds 400/800/100

"Miami" John Cernuto (Las Vegas, NV) was walking with his head down as he went to fire a second bullet only shortly after initially sitting down.  It looks like second time is a charm for him, as he goes from the starting stack of 30,000 to 145,000 in only an hour.  John used to flopped sets to get full doubles, and then flopped top two against an opponent who pushed all-in on the turn (with three outs).  Asher Conniff also continues to trend upwards as he now sits on a stack of 140,000.

Big Stax 300: Level 8 Upon Us

Level 8 is about to begin, with the blinds increasing to 400/800/100.  The total number of entries continues to rise each level, as it currently sits at 264.

Big Stax 300: Fashionably Late

Level 7 - Blinds 300/600/100

Jonas Wexler

Jonas Wexler (Southhampton, PA) walked into the room after the break, returning to Parx after padding his career earnings by $25,000.  Wexler took second in the $365 NL Hold'em Six-Max at the WSOPC (Chester) for just over $10,700, and followed that up with an eight place finish in the $1,675 Main Event in the same series ($14,000).

Big Stax 300: Charles In Charge

Level 7 - Blinds 300/600/100

Carbone's Early Chip Lead

As players come back from break, we find the big stack in the room.  Charles Carbone sits with just over 200,000 (333 big blinds), and continues to separate himself from the rest of the field.

Big Stax 300: Break # 2

Level 6 - Blinds 250/500/50

Players are about to go on their second (15) break of the day, as the tournament directors color off the green (25 denomination) chips.  When they return to Level 7, the blinds will be 300/600/100.

Big Stax 300: Updated Chip Counts

Level 6 - Blinds 250/500/50

Here are some of the larger stacks in the field:

Charles Carbone - 185,000
Larry Kolk - 160,000
Brian Dougherty - 115,000
Asher Conniff - 100,000
Chris Kusha - 79,000

Big Stax 300: Blinds Increasing, Level 6 Begins

Level 6 is underway, with the blinds going up to 250/500/50.  The chip average in the room is 42,671 (85 big blinds), with 161 players currently playing of the 229 total entries.

Big Stax 300: Chipping Up

Level 5 - Blinds 200/400/50

The Twitter-sphere has given us some updates on chip counts (which is the best way to make the stacks known to the blog), as we see Asher Coniff and Justin Morrell off to a nice early start:

Big Stax 300: The Rich Get Richer

Level 5 - Blinds 200/400/50

Larry Kolk already held the chip lead in the field, and continues to watch as his lead grows.  We walked over to his table and watched as he was involved in a hand with Amanda Musumeci.  Amanda was all-in on the turn, on a board of 4 K♣ 2 2♣.  When the hands were shown, it was the A♣ K♠ of Kolk against the K J of Musumeci.  The river brought a black six, and Amanda would be knocked out, with Kolk chipping up to over 150,000.

Big Stax 300: Level 5 Begins

Level 5 has just started, with the blinds increasing to 200/400/50.

Big Stax 300: Keep Filing In

Level 4 - Blinds 150/300/50

The field begins to grow (212 entries), and more tournament regulars are showing up fashionably late:

Alex Rocha - $317,000 career tournament earnings
Kyle Bowker - $1,904,000 career tournament earnings

Big Stax 300: New Shooter

Level 4 - Blinds 150/300/50

Once we returned from break, Parx regular Larry Kolk (Levittown, PA) made sure we were aware of his chip stack.  The post earlier read that the chip leader was around 80,000, but Kolk went to break with just over 110,000.

Larry Kolk (Levittown, PA)

Big Stax 300: Back From Break

Level 4 - Blinds 150/300/50

Players are returning to their seats, ready to play the next three levels.  The chip lead in the room looks to be somewhere close to 80,000.  Sometimes we manage to miss notables in the room, so we utilize Twitter to discover those players:

Big Stax 300: First Break Of The Day

Level 3 - Blinds 100/200/25

As the minutes wind down on Level 3, players will get a chance to stretch their legs during a (15) minute break.  When they return, the blinds will be going up to 150/300/50, as the total numbers of entries now sits at 180.  Few more notables wandered in during the last level, including:

"Miami" John Cernuto
Steve Rodriguez

Big Stax 300: Level Up

Level 3 is now ticking down, as the blinds go up to 100/200/25.  Poker room ambassador Matt Glantz was talking to good friend Brian Lemke (Norristown, PA) as he walked to the cage to register.  Brian showed a little Twitter humor as he made his way to the room:

Big Stax 300: More Notable Faces

Level 2 - Blinds 75/150

As the number of entries continues to grow (159), we see more and more faces we recognize:

Robert Lynch
Ilya Ekshtut
Norman Rogers
Pofuk Ying
Alexander Berdichevskiy
Deeangelo Seng

Big Stax 300: Level 2 Begins

Level 2 has just started, with blinds increasing to 75/150.  During the last level we saw a steady stream of players still coming into the clubhouse room, including Leonardo Palermo (Ortley Beach, NJ).  Palermo is an east coast tournament regular, who has over $200,000 in career tournament earnings, including one cash in the inaugural Big Stax.  He took home $2,574 for his 25th place finish in February,  and has just been crushing it in 2013.  He has over $90,000 in earnings already (year to date), including a 3rd place finish in the opening event of the Borgata Spring Open ($60,000) and a 6th place finish in the WSOPC Main Event at Chester ($23,000).

Big Stax 300: Faces In The Crowd

Level 1 - 50/100

We already have 115 entries, and a ton of familiar faces in the clubhouse room so far:

Justin Morrell (@justinmorell)
Tony Arnieri (@tonyl0c0)
Cathy Dever (@cathydever)
Marvin Siegal
Nancy Martin
Amanda Musumeci
Stephanie Hubbard
Asher Coniff
Jeffrey Spence
Hua Wei

Big Stax 300 Is Now Underway

Level 1 - Blinds 50/100

The tournament directors are making their beginning announcements, while playing are continuously filing into their seats.  The first of the ParxBigStax II main events is about to begin, and here are some of the things that should be taken note of:

- (3) Day 1's with 45 minute levels, and play each day will be ending after Level 16

- Unlimited entries throughout each Day 1, with late entries and re-entries receiving a full stack (30,000)

- Any player that finishes more than one Day 1, will only be entitled to take their largest finishing stack towards Day 2.

Once we have a chance to take a lap around the room, we will bring you the tournament regulars, as well as the notable faces in the field so far.

*** If you are using Twitter throughout the series, please remember to use the #ParxBigStax for all posts, and good luck to all.
